Wilbert Williams Legacy Scholarships & Awards
The “So What” Behind the Scholarship

A Legacy Built by Hand, Faith & Service

This program carries the name of Wilbert Williams because his life represented what Organization of Hope continues to pass forward: faith, hard work, family, service, education, and the courage to build something that outlives you.

🏠

Legacy Built by Hand

Wilbert Williams remodeled all seven homes that helped his daughter, Patrecia Williams, build the foundation for Bridging Hope’s housing and community support work.

🤝

Over a Decade of Giving

Since 2012, more than $5,000 has been invested annually into scholarships, awards, and direct support.

📍

Regional Impact

More than 23 youth and young adults have been supported across North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, DC, and Florida.

🌱

Why Give?

Because every scholarship helps someone keep going, dream bigger, and build a future rooted in hope.

Who Was Wilbert Williams?

Wilbert Williams was more than a father. He was a builder, believer, provider, and quiet force behind a legacy that continues to serve others today.

Born and rooted in North Carolina, Wilbert Williams was a Christian man, a devoted father, a husband, a businessman, and a man of service.

A Life of Purpose Through Work & Faith

With only a high school diploma, he built a life of purpose through hard work, faith, family, and entrepreneurship. He owned and operated a construction company and also co-owned a child care center in North Carolina, investing his hands, heart, and resources into people, property, and possibility.

Wilbert was the father of two military children, each serving 26 years individually. He understood discipline, sacrifice, and the power of helping the next generation move forward.

The Foundation Behind Bridging Hope’s Early Work

When his daughter, Patrecia Williams, also known as PW, had a dream to build safe, supportive housing and community programs, Wilbert stepped in with his tools, his construction company, and his belief in her vision.

He remodeled all seven houses connected to Bridging Hope’s early work, helping transform buildings into spaces of hope, recovery, stability, and second chances.

A Legacy That Continues

Wilbert Williams passed away in 2013 at the age of 62 after battling lymphoma cancer. Though his life ended too soon, his legacy continues through every scholarship, every award, every young person encouraged, and every individual given a chance to keep going.

This scholarship and awards program carries his name because his life represented what we hope to pass on: faith, hard work, family, service, education, and the courage to build something that outlives you.

Why This Legacy Matters

Since 2012, Bridging Hope, Inc. dba Organization of Hope has invested more than $5,000 each year into scholarships, awards, and direct support — totaling more than $60,000 given back to youth, students, and individuals working toward a better future.

This effort began before there was a formal scholarship page or public campaign. It started as a family and community commitment to help young people and emerging leaders access opportunities they might not otherwise have.

To date, the Wilbert Williams Legacy Scholarships & Awards have supported more than 23 youth and young adults from North Carolina, Maryland, Washington, DC, and Florida.

These scholarships and awards are designed to support people who are taking meaningful steps forward, including youth scholars, foster youth, veterans and children of veterans, adults in recovery or transition, students pursuing college or trade school, and volunteers or community leaders who are serving others while working toward their own goals.

This program is personal because it is rooted in lived experience. It honors a father who helped build the foundation. It supports students and families who need a hand up. It reminds our community that education, service, and opportunity should not be limited by income, location, grief, hardship, or circumstance.

Every dollar given helps continue a legacy that has already invested more than $60,000 into people, possibility, and hope.
